RJ’s 2002 Restoration

I created this site to chronicle the progress on my restoration of a 1970 BMW 2002. I have had many years and versions of these cars and unfortunately, never documented any of the work I did. My lease ended on my X5 so the 02 is currently my daily driver. If I end up buying a new 1-Series next spring, I’ll have the ability to strip the car down and have the body repaired and painted. Although I am tempted to paint it the original color, my heart is set on Polaris (silver). I have plenty of time to decide on that.

My brother-in-law Jason was the previous owner of the car and drove it here to Atlanta from Southern California so it is almost completely rust-free. After he got out of the Army, he decided to give me the car because he knew how much I loved them and he did not have the time to fix it up. I am very grateful to him for this unbelievable gift!

He had already rebuilt the engine and installed a 5-Speed Transmission from a 320i so the car is half way there. As my first 02 with a 5-Speed, I will tell you that it is a whole different car on the Highway with that extra gear.

Welcome to my site
