Orioles

The common Orioles we have in San Diego County are the Hooded Oriole and the Bullock’s Oriole.  The Hooded are common backyard and urban park birds who prefer palm trees for nest sites. The Bullock’s prefer less developed areas for nesting.
The Baltimore Oriole and Scott’s Oriole are uncommon. Orchard Orioles are very unusual.  Rusty Blackbirds had not been seen in the County for more than 20 years when one appeared in Oceanside in December 2008.  As of March 2009 its still hanging out with the common Brewer’s & Red-wing Blackbirds  in a crappy park.
