Gory Details and Instructions

*gently! We DO NOT RECOMMEND this drastic cure.... but it seems to work.

Sai’s comments:
I actually used a soldering iron to melt the solder off the pins of the chip, while using a precision screwdriver to lift the chip.

    1.    I’d be very careful not to rip the cable that the sensor sits on.  I think it is a double sided cable, so do not poke thru it.
    2.    make sure you don’t leave any solder blobs or short circuits on the cable if you happen to short circuit the power lines you might blow some other components in the Powerbook.

Bills comments:
If you don't have a soldering iron at hand but have access to a dremmel tool (high speed rotary hand tool), then you might, with a tiny carbide cutting bit, be able to grind away the pin connections on the chip. I've got a very high end tool like this that would do the job. It looks like a dentist's drill and has very tiny tips for very precise work like this.

In the absence of a soldering iron with a pencil tip this is the next best thing. I would not try to "rip" or pry it off with anything. Rip that ribbon cable and you've got a whole new problem on your hands.
