Richard Milton

Richard began his playing down south in wind bands and orchestras and only discovered brass bands in his late teens (about the same time he discovered beer funnily enough!). Whilst studying at Salford Richard studied trombone with Ian Bousfield and conducting with Roy Newsome and Dave King. It was at this time he joined Besses o’ th’ Barn band and played 2nd trombone to John Binns. When he left Besses John asked Richard to help out for a Christmas concert of the band he was conducting Whitworth. That was the start of Richard’s happy association with our band which has included spells on all the trombone seats and in the bass section. Richard has also had a couple of spells as the band’s conductor with the highlight being the 4th place in the 3rd Section National Finals in 1998.

Richard also fronts the bands 10 piece (aka Dicky Milton and the Idleburgers).
