Ever since I was young, I’ve always had an interest in technology. I feel fortunate to be able to use my passion for technology in creative and exciting ways - both as an educator and aspiring filmmaker.
My goal has always been to utilize educational technology in today’s schools as a method to both engage students to to enrich the curriculum. I was able to achieve these objectives this past year - winning two national video contests. In November 2007, my class won the Interwrite Learning Makeover Contest which included $15,000 worth of educational technology for our video “Aint Gonna Hold Us Back (D-I-G-I-T-A-L).”
Six months later in June, I was named the SMART Technologies Extraordinary Moments Contest Grand Prize Winner for my commercial “Learning is Extraordinary.” Winning this new equipment helped me further promote my desire to incorporate technology in the classroom.
While studying autism at S. John Fisher College, I directed my first documentary “Different and Normal: My Life With Asperger Syndrome.” Since its release in 2005, the film was screened at The Little Theatre in Rochester, NY, broadcast on WXXI-TV PBS Rochester, and received an award from the 2006 Rochester International Film Festival. In early 2008, I began working on the film “Finding Dr. Schatz” which will debut in 2009.
Currently, I’m teaching First Grade at Canandaigua Primary School, where I’m driven to utilize our new classroom technology including the interactive whiteboard, Peer Response System (clickers), and much more. I’m interested in hearing from other educators who share the same passion for classroom technology. Recently, I started Project:iCanRead, a program that teaches basic literacy skills through using Apple iPods. Feel free to send me an email to the address listed above.
