Gumball Blues
 
After learning about vocal tone color, traditional west african music and how it compares to blues music, students learned the standard twelve-bar blues form.  Students then worked in small groups to write blues lyrics for a twelve bar blues pattern using Garage Band.  Working in small groups students had to decide upon a topic that reflects the mood of the blues and apply a formula for writing a four line verse to a blues song.  The students then learned how to create a vocal track in Garage Band and recorded/edited their work.  This is a sample of a groups work entitled “Gumball Blues.”  This project is aligned with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and the National Standards for the Arts 1, 4, 6, 7.
