The recent previews of our new stage musical PURE COUNTRY at the Lonesome Dove Bistro and at the home of Donna Arp were truly magical, memorable evenings. Our sincere thanks to Fort Worth mayor Mike Moncrief and our hosts Donna Arp, Steve Laird, Pam Minick, Rich Connor, Tim Love, and Denton Yockey. We are already receiving tremendous financial support for our project, and we want to invite you to join the production team.
The “Listen!” link on this website highlights 7 numbers in the new 17-song score by composer Steve Dorff and lyricist John Bettis, including their No. 1 hits from the movie, “Heartland” and “I Cross My Heart.” I adapted my own original screenplay for the stage.
We have an accomplished theater and film director for the coming production -- Peter Masterson, the creator of THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS and the director of the film version of Horton Foote’s THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL. In addition, 1979 Tony Award-winning actress Carlin Glynn will play the character of “Mama Ivy.” Lesley Ann Warren will be back to reprise her film role of “Lula.”
The film of PURE COUNTRY plays almost continuously on TV, and it has an unceasingly loyal following -- over 7 million CD’s and 2 million videos sold and still counting. The soundtrack CD remains George Strait’s best selling recording ever.
We sincerely believe that our stage musical, like the film, will become a perennial family favorite with theater audiences everywhere -- a bright, contemporary, hopeful tale of Faustian redemption and rebirth. We hope you agree.
