Day five, two workers arrived and started brushing on a black tar-like goo which, after drying, forms a waterproof rubberized barrier. An actual rubber sheeting will go over this stuff, too, adding even more water protection. Later in the day, the workers removed the temporary bracing system under the house and everything stayed put. The foundation wall thickness is now less than half what it used to be. That means the sewer line in the crawlspace which was being slowly bent by the old foundation stones leaning against it now has more than a foot of clearance, which is a good thing.
