Gangotri is a pilgrim town. Bus after lumbering bus grinds up the rocky, unpaved road to Gangotri and disgorges eager groups of pilgrims who stop at shops to buy the offerings and water bottles used for worship in the Gangotri temple. Villagers come in the their brightest, best clothes and after worshipping come back through the colorful street of bright shops to find souvenirs before getting on the bus again. Our group walked along the main street to look at the shops and take photographs. In the afternoon it rained. The trekkers returned from Bhojbasa exhausted and took a nap and we all found places in this vegetarian town where you can’t even order a boiled egg.
