Greetings,
Above is a photograph of me taking photographs in Mali, West Africa. My teaching and research interests take me regularly to Africa. As a faculty member in the Department of Landscape Architecture, I teach undergraduate courses on historic African cities and American domestic landscapes, and graduate seminars on the Atlantic slave trade. I lived for several years in South Africa, and my book on Johannesburg’s racialized suburban landscapes, At Home with Apartheid, will be published by the University of Virginia Press in 2010. My current research interests include fugitive landscapes and geographies of the Atlantic slave trade.
You can learn more about my teaching, my publications, and my current projects through the links at the top of this page.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments about this site or if you share my research or teaching interests.
