The Noel Neill Statue

In 2005, The Metropolis Chamber of Commerce, Metropolis Illinois, the Home of Superman, announced the formation of "The Noel Neill Statue Committee".

The committee's sole purpose is to spearhead and oversee the construction of a life-size bronze statue of Noel Neill as "Lois Lane" to be placed in Metropolis, Illinois.

The revenue from all bricks and commemorative plaques will help pay for the sculpting and the placement of the statue which will be in close proximity to the existing Superman statue.

The six foot, bronze Noel Neill Statue is scheduled to be completed and unveiled during the 2009 Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois.

For more information, visit the official Noel Neill Statue website.

The idea is to acknowledge Noel's contributions to the Superman Celebration as the "First Lady of Metropolis" and her portrayal of Lois Lane in the Serials and the TV series of the 1950s, "The Adventures of Superman" with an honorable and permanent gesture of love from the citizens of Metropolis and from her countless fans around the world.

The concept was presented to Noel at her 85th Birthday Party held in North Hollywood, California and, with Noel's blessing, a competition for the design of a Noel Neill as Lois Lane statue was thrown open to Sculptors everywhere!

Pictures of the 2 foot size scale model of the winning sculpture were unveiled at the 2008 Superman Celebration in June 2008.

Commemorative bricks that will be placed around the statue are now on sale for $75.00 a piece. Click here for more information and how you can order your own personalized brick today!

The Dark Knight meets the Man of Steel.  International bestselling author Kevin J. Anderson tackles the tale of the first meeting of two of the greatest heroes in comic history: Batman and Superman.  In his new novel Enemies & Allies (William Morrow, 9780061662553, $26.99, on-sale 5/5/09), Anderson follows up last year’s bestseller, The Last Days of Krypton — the epic of the destruction of Superman’s home planet — with an action-packed novel set in the 1950s, during the height of the Cold War and the flying saucer craze.

As America and the Soviet Union race to build their nuclear stockpiles, two extraordinary heroes are forced to form an uneasy alliance. These studies in opposites -- shadow and light -- must overcome their distrust of each other to battle evil and injustice.  And the corrupt genius Lex Luthor plays both US and USSR against each other, bringing the world to the brink of a nuclear holocaust that only Batman and Superman can stop.

Kirkus Reviews recently gave a power-punched review of Enemies & Allies: “Anderson spins a rousing superhero epic that doesn’t retread the heroes’ origins, but instead cleverly uses its generational iconography, integrating Sputnik, Wernher Von Braun and Area 51 into the globetrotting plot, to say nothing of Luthor’s death rays, chunks of Kryptonite and alien spacecraft. … Injects a welcome dose of retro exuberance into the capes-and-tights routine.”

A Letter to the Fans of George Reeves from Chuck Harter

Much of that material is of an exclusive nature.  My many attempts to get the ultimate visual coffee table type book on the TV series published have unfortunately proved unsuccessful.  I am still pursuing options on that book and will continue to do so until it is finally published.

It was never my intention to delve into the mystery of his death when I began this journey.  However, as I worked through the years, much information on his passing came into my possession.  Late last year, I began organizing the material into a timeline in an attempt to clarify and explain events that led up to the fateful night of June 16, 1959.  The shooting and immediate aftermath have also been organized and documented.

I shared this material with a few long time fans of George Reeves (including the editor of this website) and was encouraged by their favorable responses.  As a result I am now and will continue to work diligently at finishing a book on this tragic mystery.

For years I believed that there could only be one explanation of Reeves’ death by gunshot wound.  I even went on several TV shows and explained my position.  However, after compiling this timeline from various sources and using logical supposition beyond a reasonable doubt.  I feel that I have been able to provide the most convincing portrayal of the passing of George Reeves and the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.

It is my intention to finish writing the timeline and then to make a book form of this material available.  As of now, my target date for availability is December of 2009.

The forthcoming book will explain many things including:
1. George Reeves’ mental and physical health at the time of the tragic shooting.
2. The many events that occurred during his last few years that contributed to the final night.
3. Lenore Lemmon’s prediction of Reeves’ final moments before the shot was heard.
4. The mysterious 55 minute delay in calling the police.
5. and much more…

I will also dispel many myths that have been established over the years from various articles, books and TV shows.  George Reeves was a hero and inspiration to me as a boy and I have always held him in much esteem and always will.  This book is not an attempt to besmirch my childhood “friend” but will show that a good man had several personal flaws.  These foibles, combined with a series of truly unfortunate and overpowering events, caused his tragic end which is still of interest to the present day.

13 June 2009

Dear fans of George Reeves,

In a short time it will be the 50th anniversary of the tragic passing of actor George Reeves.  His

premature death has been a source of both interest

and controversy for many years.  There have been books (Hollywood Kryptonite, Speeding Bullet), many TV shows and a feature film (Hollywoodland)

on this subject.  Each one attempted to give the reasons for Reeves’ mysterious death.

I have been researching George Reeves and the Adventures of Superman TV series for over 20 years and have amassed a great deal of material.

I have asked the George Reeves Forever website to deliver this statement and will keep you informed through GRF of progress as it occurs.  In closing, I’d like to reaffirm my love and appreciation for George Reeves and the truly classic Adventures of Superman TV series.

His passing of 50 years ago is a true Hollywood mystery and it is my goal to provide an explanation.

Chuck Harter

Editor's note: I have had the privilege of reviewing some early drafts of Chuck Harter's book, and I can tell you right now that it's going to be excellent.  The timeline that Chuck has composed of the last year of George's life is fascinating.   Chuck's research is extensive and quite impressive.  And based on the evidence he has compiled, Chuck's theory of what really happened to George Reeves is compelling.  I'm sure that anyone who is interested in the enduring mystery of George's untimely death will enjoy reading the detailed account of the events that led up to those fateful early morning hours of June 16, 1959.  Chuck is the author of two other books, Superboy and Superpup: The Lost Videos and Superman on Broadway and has appeared on numerous TV specials dealing with the death of George Reeves.  Chuck also provided commentary on some episodes included in Warner's DVD collection of the Adventures of Superman, Season 1.

We will keep you informed as work progresses on Chuck's book.
