Artist
Residency Overview
|
A
preliminary consultation with coordinating
faculty and administration establishes key areas of interest for residency
workshops, performances, convocations,
and other events.
Activities are designed to integrate within existing curricula and class
schedules while stimulating new musical and artistic directions. On
the basis of these projected activities, the residencys scope,
length, timeframe, artist fees, travel and
lodging expenses are determined.
A
Hosting Site's efforts
to expand a residency to other local institutions helps reduce artist
fees and related expenses through cost-sharing
and other added service incentives.
Boukas comments:
"This
Brazilian repertoire performed by the ensemble is
among the most challenging a student or consummate
professional will encounter. The players know that
we are presenting
most of this music for the first time in North America
and thus
have a serious responsibility to uphold.
As
they will be the artists and educators of the future,
it is my duty to equip them with the accurate musical
information and interpretive sensibilities that will
allow this music to achieve a global awareness without
losing its essential character."
