"The Duo harbors a storehouse of wisdom
to share as well. Their convocation
and ensemble master
class were informative on several levels, from
explaining the history of Brazilian repertoire to expounding
on its rhythmic intricacies and functions in the music.
Their insights appealed to a diverse audience of musicians
and people from all levels of experience.
But the learning didn't stop with the scheduled events.
Richard and Jovino were very generous with
their time. Their friendly and approachable nature left
doors wide open for any student who wished to pursue private
instruction in piano,
guitar, ear training, composition and other areas
of interest.
I found my private ear training
lesson with Richard
to be very advantageous. In the space of a couple
of hours, he managed to pinpoint my primary strengths and
weaknesses. It gave me a whole new agenda to direct my studies.
I am still reaping the benefits.
These two days filled with the sounds
of Brazil culminated with their concert,
an event which for this small Wyoming community was as well-attended
as any I can remember. The Duo's energy, wit, extraordinary
sense of the music and their interaction was a lesson to
be learned in itself.
For any students willing to keep an open mind and heart,
the Boukas/Santos-Neto Duo offers a goldmine of insight,
inspiration, and certainly the fine art of Brazilian music."
