The campus of Casper College sits at the foothills of the Front Range, a section of the Rockies which makes a sweeping east-west turn in central Wyoming. The mountains appear more like sleeping surf topped by a powder-blue sky.

Reflections

Three hundred miles north of Denver, just on the other side of the impressive Rocky Mountains known as the Front Range is the rural town of Casper Wyoming. Located a few miles from downtown is the campus of Casper College- which supports a small but vibrant Jazz program headed by Tracy Pfau. His mandate to sponsor quality Jazz and alternative arts events for nearly twenty years has been a major cultural force in Casper's arts community and statewide in his efforts to improve Jazz education on secondary and grade levels. In a state where arts and educational funding is tight, Pfau defies the daunting fiscal odds through creative grant writing and drawing upon his own diverse talents as a guitarist, bassist and much beloved educator.
Pfau and Richard Boukas met through Ricardo Iznaola, a longtime mutual colleague, master classical guitarist and pedagogue at the Lamont School of Music. "It was clear from our very first conversation that Tracy and I were going to do something to bring my Duo with Jovino Santos Neto out to Casper", says Boukas. "Our mission aligns on many levels, and his intense conviction for presenting meaningful artistic experiences to his community is a genuine, almost spiritual calling for him."

"...our deepest appreciation for the astounding residency conducted by the Boukas/Santos Neto Duo, which epitomizes the warmth, humor, and rich diversity of Brazil's musical heritage. The intensity of artistic inspiration you demonstrated was profound, and it is impossible to imagine a more artistically or educationally effective series of venues than your presentations to our students, faculty, and community.

The convocation, master classes, and private study were all presented at the highest levels of artistic integrity, with incisive and focused content- yet all of your work remained totally accessible to the diverse audiences that attended. You are to be commended for not only your mastery of Brazilian music, but the depth of commitment to your teaching.

The concert rode a tightrope between passionate sensitivity and uncompromised virtuosity. Thank you for sharing you great achievements and art with our students and community. We very much look forward to your return to Casper College."
