Toyota 4age 20v charger engine upgrades
Since Raw introduced the Toyota 4age 1600cc multivalve engine over seven years ago it has acquired over 250 passionate followers.
The high revving characteristics along with the strong smoothe power curve immediately created a reputation for exciting performance especially suited to light performance cars such as the Striker. The continual strong demand for this unique power unit has been supplied from the Far East and is set to continue over the next 5 years.
Raw has now replaced the original 16 valve with the more powerful 20v engine in both Silvertop and Black top specifications. Both come with variable valve timing and high quality side draft throttle bodies. Also both are supplied with the Omex 600 mapped ignition system to ease installation and prepare the way for power upgrades.
In defining a power upgrade strategy Raw has decided to supply the 145bhp Silvertop version in standard form and also with a bolt on supercharge option raising the power to 220 and 280 respectively. The first upgrade to 220 bhp retains all the standard injectors and there is no need to decompress. The 280 version now under construction will be sold as a full prepared engine as it will have upgraded pistons, conrods and injectors.
This upgrade has been undertaken in conjunction with Omex Technology using the highly efficient Rotrex supercharger which could be described as a belt driven turbocharger. As it is the size of an alternator it has created the possibility of a very neat lightweight installation. Also there is no lag and a very progressive torque and power curve making driving safe at low to medium revs but absolutely mind blowing higher up the rev range. This type suits a road and track configuration. All kits come with the Rotrex supercharger, intercooler, plenum, pipe work, filter and all fixing and additional electronics needed for the Omex 600 system
The Black top engine which has lighter internals and produces up to 160 bhp in standard form will soon also be sold with modified headwork and cams reaching over 180 bhp naturally aspirated. This is anticipated to become a favourite club spec engine for those enthusiasts who wish to purchase an extremely competitive and affordable 1600 cc club motorsport engine.
