This is the story of a legwarmer that grew up to be a sleeve. And gave birth to a sweater.
Basically, I was having the worst day ever. Seriously. There was an awful knitting class that I had been looking forward to so much but the teacher was a total prick. And the whole day was full of the wierdest crazies. I mean, I know I live in New York and all but dear god that Sunday was wild. And then my roommate- someone I thought was a friend- decided to move out.
So I bought some yarn. Because there’s very little in life that can’t be made better with gorgeous yarn. In this case, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Chunky to make the Manresa Legwarmers from knitty. Gorgeous and soft and, as you can see from the picture above- thanks Amy!- totally gorgeous colors.
So what happened to those legwarmers? Well, I put the first one on and it was just too beautiful, too soft and too utterly utterly lovely to be exposed to the vagaries of New York winters. It gets filthy and I couldn’t bear to ruin them in the slush.
Step one was finding a pattern to slot the sleeves into. They’re so fabulous I would want to make them the centerpiece of the garment. So something simple that would showcase the colorwork. I eventually settled on an Elizabeth Zimmermann inspired...thing. Its purple with green flecks. I still need to knit up the other sleeve and then I’ll join up the three pieces and yoke it up. That’s what winter break is for :)
