To better the world in which I live in, whether through politics by working on campaigns for public office and public issues, or through technology by working for socially-conscious companies which focus on simple, elegant, user-oriented software, hardware, and design.
work experience
________________________________________
Apple, Inc. October 2007-present
Currently, I work for Apple as a Mac Specialist. Essentially, what I do is demonstrate, sell, and instruct people on all of Apple's products and services, and by doing so, I enable them to make full use of the tools they've acquired in order to make their lives better.
Colorado House of Representatives January 2007-May 2007
I served as a Legislative Aide to State Rep. Michael Merrifield. Essentially, I handled everything from his schedule to his rapid response media strategy to his constituent services. A difficult, fast-paced job, made significantly easier by working for a truly decent and honorable man.
Keely Marrs for Senate August 2006-November 2006
I was campaign manager for her campaign for Colorado State Senate. What this meant was that I was responsible, along with the candidate, for the general tone and approach we took to winning this seat. Keely was a first-time liberal candidate for office running in the third-most conservative district in the state; we didn't win, but we went down fighting and standing up for what we believed in, which was just as important.
Ned Lamont for U.S. Senate April 2006-August 2006
Here, I worked as a political and field organizer. What this meant was that I was not only responsible for rounding up votes for Mr. Lamont in his bid to defeat U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman and take over his seat in the Senate, but that I was also responsible for building alliances between the campaign and liberal and progressive organizations. A very, very difficult job, made much more rewarding by working again with a decent man who deserved to be (and still does) in the Senate. Our efforts were met with victory in the August primary.
Veterans for Kerry May 2004-November 2004
This was my first political job after returning from Iraq. I worked with Sen. John Kerry's Presidential campaign in helping to reach out to and politically organize veterans to support John Kerry in his bid to become President. We managed to register over 40,000 veterans and family members, and even though our efforts fell short, the organization we created still lives on to this day as Colorado Veterans for America.
U.S. Army March 1999-February 2006
I enlisted in the Army as a Fire Support Specialist, which means I was responsible for ranging ahead of our forces, finding the enemy, and either killing or neutralizing that enemy by using indirect fire--air strikes, mortars, artillery fire, etc.
I served in Korea, and did a combat tour in Iraq, where not only did I serve in my primary position, but also served concurrently as a battalion- and brigade-level Civil Affairs Specialist, meaning I was a liaison between the Coalition Provisional Authority (our occupation government in 2003 and 2004) and the local population.
I earned the following decorations:
3 Army Commendation Medals
3 Army Achievement Medals
1 Iraq Campaign Medal
1 Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal
1 Global War on Terror Service Medal
1 National Defense Service Medal
1 Korean Service Medal
1 Combat Action Badge
