why toddler discipline is an oxymoron

The Pumpkin (calling from the bedroom, which I have vacated after being kicked in the head while on the bed):  Daddy?

Me (in the living room):  Yes?

TP (looking for me in the hallway, prompted by her mother):  Daddy?

Me (noncommittally):  Yes?

TP (now in the living room with me):  Sorry.

Me:  You’re sorry for what?

TP (coming closer. arms wide):  I need hug.

(TP comes in for a hug; me, chuckling at the manipulation)

TP (patting her stomach—did I mention she’s naked except for a diaper?):  Look at me!

TP (backing away towards the hallway at a run):  You happy now?
