Abita Music Company  is the parent company of JAZZMAN.

Abita Music Company was founded in 1992 for the production of a radio series on Louisiana music called “The Creole Gumbo Radio Show”.  These programs, and it’s subsequent series: “South to Louisiana; a Cajun and Zydeco Music Show”, aired on over 100 public radio stations nationwide between 1992 & 1996 .  Independently produced by Jerry Embree, and distributed on the National Public Radio satellite network, these works received a distinguished National Endowment for the Arts Award.  In 2006 & 2008, these works were recognized for their historical importance by receiving a Grammy Foundation Award, to insure a permanent archive of the master recordings.

Abita Music is a music publishing company that represents the writers of REBIRTH BRASS BAND, among others.

The name of the company was derived from the locale in which the company founder lived and worked at the time - Abita Springs, Louisiana.

The company is owned and operated by Jerry Embree, a saxophone student of Mr. James Houlik, and a graduate of the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts (1984 - Bachelor of Music).

Jerry lived in New Orleans from 1985-2005, working professionally as a band leader, music contractor, recording studio manager, recorded music producer, and music publishing administrator.

After Hurricane Katrina flooded their home in 2005, he and his wife Darlene relocated to Orlando, FL.  Now based in Orlando, the couple maintains homes in both locales, and both return frequently to New Orleans for musical engagements.  (Travel requests to other cities are always considered.)  Abita Music now contracts musicians in both locales as 1-800-JAZZMAN.
