A Quick CYA Conference 2009 rundown:

From the fabulous news of Jo's contract first up in the morning, and Jackie French's blunt and entertaining key note speech, right through all the presenters to the end of the day at 18H00 CYA was a-buzz with oodles-of-energy and attitude of writers and illustrators. Networking galore, learning and revisiting topics interesting to all, the day turned out to be a great success.

Masterclasses were conducted by Jackie French, Paul Collins, Colin Thompson, Meredith Costain, Mark Guthrie, Patrick J. Jones, Peter Carnavas and international author Brian Falkner. Workshops include Pam Rushby, Brian Tucker (CPA Australia),Scott Monk, Shane Thamm, Dee White, Kathryn Apel and Rev Dr Kim Miller. A full day of people performing manuscript assessments/pitches by Leonie Tyle ( Woolshed Press, Random House), Kristina Schulz (UQP), Paul Collins(Ford Street Publishing), Jacinta di Mase ( Jacinta di Mase Management.) and Dr David Reiter, (Editor and Director of Interactive Press, Treetop Studio)

Thank you to our wonderful team of volunteers for helping us bring CYA to the world a fourth time. Also to all the presenters,( many of who spent the whole day with us, as well as presented,) it was a pleasure hosting you all. Exciting news stemming directly from the CYA Competition is that Paul Collins, Ford Street Publishing is now working with Jo Thompson ( winner illustration section 2009) as the illustrator for publication of the book used for the competition: The Glass House. Congratulation Jo and good luck on working with Paul Collins and Ford Street Publishing!
