Analysing & Creating Radio Drama

In  the  first year Key Media Concepts exam,  students have the option of writing  a detailed textual analysis of  a  radio drama sequence.

For the second year Advanced Portfolio,  students  can create  their own radio drama sequence.

So in  these notes, I’ve tried to examine  what happens  when audiences listen to radio plays; and I’ve given some  signposts for exploring the creative possibilities of  radio narrative.

This site  was initially designed  to supplement a workshop which I  gave  at the OCR Media Studies Conference  in London, March 2008, for teachers involved in the delivery of the new OCR Advanced  Level Media Studies course. However,  I hope it will be useful for anyone interested in radio, and especially for my media students at the Royal National College for the Blind. As a radio dramatist, I’ve found that  the process of devising the site  has helped me to focus my understanding  of  how this wonderful medium actually works...
