Tweeting, again
Last November, I pointed to all the online tools necessary to wage revolution. Now with the Iranian situation, Twitter and YouTube are again proving that terror—government organized or not—cannot stop people from expressing themselves to the whole world. Follow the Iran election Twitter feed here.
When I visited Teheran in December 2006, one thing that struck me was how many young people there are. 50% of this city of 15 million are under 30. Teheran University has about 40,000 students, its president told me, half of whom are women. The outrage over the election is quite understandable. They are supposed to be free and fair, even in Iran. These young people know how to make use of online tools. And mobile phones as well—I count on my iPhone for computing now, as well as my MacBook Pro.
I hope against hope that real change will come to Iran, a wonderful country of 72 million very talented people, whose culture goes back to Cyrus the Persian, Isaiah’s favorite goy.
My Twitter handle, by the way, is bppwhalon...
