Progressive Candidate for District 2
I am Margaret (Maggie) Fishman, a candidate for Democratic Central Committee in the 2nd district.
I am a high school instructor, teaching government and economics. I also serve as Senator Carole Migden's alternate on the Central Committee.
I became an active Democrat during college when I met State Senator John Dunlap. I went on to support his campaign, to run Democratic Headquarters in Santa Rosa and to help run the campaign that elected Mike Gage to the Assembly. I met my husband during that campaign when he worked for then-Assemblyman Barry Keene.
We moved to Sacramento where I worked on Assemblyman Gage's legislative staff and where Bill worked for the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee.
I took a hiatus from grass roots politics to raise a family, and teach; but I have actively supported Congresswoman Woolsey, Pam Torrilatt for the Assembly, Jane Hamilton for Supervisor, and others.
I have also supported and become involved in many non-elective community organizations such as the PTA, School Site Council, Petaluma Education Foundation, and others. Some of my past experience rubbed off on one son who worked for Congresswoman Woolsey in Washington D.C..
Education is my principal area of interest and knowledge, but not my only one. I think the current administration has promoted an agenda bent on the demise of public education. This can't be allowed.
