Layer Cake
Côtes du Rhône
The Roman Empire after years of war in what is now France planted vines in the Rhône in 125 B.C. They went on to construct aqueducts that are still considered engineering marvels today. The Rhône has a fascinating history entwined with Popes, castles, Knights Templar and war after war.
The Rhône produces many different varietals yet the two I love the most would most certainly be Syrah and Grenache from the Southern Rhône, sometimes together and sometimes seperately.
“I probably drink more Southern Rhône than any other kind of wines because it fits in with our cooking. These are wines that are not oaked. You can drink them young and appreciate the purity of their fruit.”
Mr. Robert Parker Jr. (New York Times 3-22-06)
Our Layer Cake from the Côtes du Rhône is centered around Châteauneuf du Pape and is one hundred percent Syrah for the richness, floral notes and finesse imparted by the warmer Southern Rhône climate.
The Rhône is another one of those magical places, so ancient filled with late summer golden light, the people, the truffles and of course the food...
We are here in the Rhône to take an incredible resource and craft our Layer Cake - Côtes du Rhône. The journey in France is not easy but worth every step.
Welcome along!!
The Rhône was first planted to vines in 125 BC...
