Volunteer Voucher Program
Volunteer Voucher Program
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Puget Sound DockDogs. So as part of an ongoing recognition process, we will be offering member volunteers the opportunity to earn vouchers that can be used for wave fees and merchandise. Here’s how it works:
**Sign up for the 2009 Issaquah Salmon Days Event online now! The volunteer list will also be posted at the June 14th practice.**
THE VOLUNTEER VOUCHER PROGRAM
2009 edition
Each Voucher is worth $5.00
Vouchers can be used for wave fees or club merchandise. Earned vouchers must be picked up ‘day of’ your volunteer duties. They will have an expiration date of 1 year from the date of issue.
There are many jobs, both big and small, that we need help with between the setup and teardown of an event.
From the general list of jobs, please sign up. Club members can sign up for as many jobs as they like. The more you work, the more money you will save on wave fees and merchandise.
Vouchers can be redeemed for wave fees up to the $5.00 per dog fee paid to DockDogs, Inc. Every competitor will be required to at least pay this minimum fee.
If you want to sign up to help, you can email the PSDD club secretary, Gabe Wishnie (gwishnie@hotmail.com), or show up at the event and see the Event Superintendent. PSDD will attempt to post the volunteer signup list during general meetings that precede upcoming events and online.

VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Setup:
Work with the DockDogs personnel and PSDD club officers setting up event, pool. Assisting staging personnel with unloading and setup of dock. Tent and registration booth including electrical hook-ups, and banner placements. Setting up the crating area.
Teardown:
Work with the DockDogs personnel and PSDD club officers, and staging personnel in breaking down the event, tents, pool, including tear down and loading of dock. Pool requires draining, breaking down parts, inventorying, and loading PSDD trailer.
Head Wrangler:
Get list of competitors from the Event Administrator. During waves, make sure that competitors are in line and ready for their turn on the dock. Work with announcer to keep the wave moving and on time.
This person is “in charge’ of the dock during the competition, and during practice time preceding a wave, if needed. This person’s responsibility is to make sure dogs and handlers are safe. This is the person to enforce the ‘one dog off leash at a time’ rule. Previous dogs must be out of the water and on lead (or secure) before the next person takes their dog onto the dock.
Write scores down on the wave scoring sheets during competition, sign in, and turn into administrator after each wave is complete.
Exit Wrangler:
Assist in the ‘flow of traffic’ as dogs exit the pool and owners get them on lead. This person’s job is to signal the head wrangler when it is okay to bring the next dog on the dock, as well as signaling the judges that there is a dog on the dock before each competition jump.
Judge:
Each wave must have a minimum of one (1) nationally DockDogs certified judge. In addition, there must also be another certified judge OR an apprentice judge (for a total of 2 judges for each wave).
Information Desk Help:
Prior to competition waves, and during registration times, we need 2 individuals to help with questions, new competitors filling out registration forms, answering general questions about our events (titles, rules, membership, etc). Help familiarize new competitors with the rules, where and when they need to be at judges briefing, leash rules, etc.
*Volunteers for this position should have attended a couple of events and are familiar with how PSDD events are run and a basic understanding of the rules set forth by DockDogs, Inc.
Retail Help:
Occasionally we have club retail items for sale. Duties include setup and fold down at the end of the day, helping customers with items, keeping track of inventory, taking money, keeping accurate records of sales, giving sales money and sales information to the Event Administrator.
Ribbon Help:
This shift begins at the end of the 1st group, and then at the end of every consecutive wave. The Event Administrator begins with inputting event results. You will in charge of dividing up ribbons and distributing the ribbons during a brief awards ceremony at the end of each wave.
Guest Announcer:
This duty is typically handled by a club officer or board member. But during each wave this person needs a break, or would like to compete with their dog. This position is best for someone who is comfortable talking to a crowd, and may know about dogs and handlers who are competing.
Event Supervisor:
This person is generally assigned by the PSDD officers for each event. The job description carries a wide variety of duties such as attending festival planning meetings, acting as a liaison between the festival and PSDD, facilities planning, and the point person during the event for volunteers and other event related necessities.
Event Administrator:
The main duties of the administrator are entering registrations, score keeping, tallying, and figurer of finalists. Persons interested in this job should talk with other experienced volunteers in this type of position in order to learn the computer scoring program. This job is the most appreciated job in the club!
