Red Sun Aikido opened its doors with Traunstein Sensei as the school's chief instructor in August of 1997 . The dojo has moved twice before settling in Jan 2001 into it's current home. We are on the top floor of a brick building that began its life as the cultural home of French speaking Canadians who emigrated to Chicopee around the turn of the 20th century. The top floor was once a ballroom/theatre and the mat is up on what was the balcony. The tin ceilings are still quite high enough for weapons practice. It sometimes gets a bit noisy because we share the 3rd floor (though not our space) with a dance school. The mat measures 20 ft by 40 ft and consists of Zebra brand mats.
