PROCEDURE

THE FIRST MEETINGS

Mr. Taylor begins by meeting with you for an hour in his studio or your location to discuss what you want to convey in the portrait: size, pose, clothing, background, location (inside, outside) where it will be hanging, as well as to discuss the intent, mood and attitude of the portrait. During the next session, the artist and subject will try out a variety of poses, lighting situations & clothing, in order to come up with a composition that represents the subject at his or her best. Mr. Taylor’s ultimate objective is to bring the canvas to life with a portrait that truly reflects the unique character and personality of each subject.

Once a pose has been mutually agreed upon, the artist will take reference photos and color notes. It is not uncommon for over 100 reference photos to be taken. Mr. Taylor will work in his studio to complete the painting from the photos, but may also require a few live sittings in order to achieve the highest quality portrait. Once the painting is completed to the satisfaction of both the client and the artist, arrangements will be made for delivery of the artwork. The cost and selection of the frame is separate from the portrait. Upon request, framing recommendations can be given.

All travel and accommodation expenses regarding the painting of the portrait, review of in-progress painting, and delivery of completed work are additional. A signed agreement and 50% deposit is required to begin work with the remainder due upon acceptance and delivery of the completed painting.

DELIVERY

Delivery arrangements are made in consultation with you. In general you can expect your portrait to be completed 6-8 ,months from the sitting date. Some things to think about are; unveilings, press releases etc.

Future portrait commissions by original client are 80% of stated prices.
