Caprices 7
Caprices 7
I included this newsprint ( 18 X 24) drawing in charcoal or conte crayon among the caprices. Profile imagery suggests that I had been looking at Renaissance imgery, but I cannot be certain. The bloated face still has distinctive features, such as the nose and chin. Had it been done some years later I would suggest that I had been looking at the work of the sixteenth-century Milanese artist Arcimboldo, but in 1962 I do not think that I had seen his brilliant pictures. Looking at this drawing, I am confounded. Was I depicting a woman, a man or is the face suited to either gender?
