What to think of this? (h/t to CrossTalk):

  1. President al-Assad discusses with American Pastor Warren relations between Syria and the USA
  2.
  3. DAMASCUS, (SANA)_ The meeting between President Bashar al-Assad and Pastor Rick Warren, a famous Protestant clergyman in the USA and an accompanying delegation on Sunday focused on the Syrian-American relations.
  4.
  5. The American delegation stressed that the American administration is mistaken not to hold dialogue with Syria.   The importance of dialogue among religions and achieving the just and comprehensive peace in the region which leads for stability and prosperity were emphasized during the meeting.
  6.
  7. Pastor Warren hailed the religious coexistence, tolerance and stability that the Syrian society is enjoying due to the wise leadership of President al-Assad, asserting that he will convey the true image about Syria to the American people.
  8.
  9. He offered to President al-Assad a memorial drawing as a gift to the Syrian people for their generosity and hospitality, thanking their efforts exerted for maintaining peace and harmony.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a fan of Rick Warren’s “seeker-friendly” evangelicalism, but I’m getting more and more concerned about his recent forays into politics. Not because I don’t think Christians should be politically active (obviously), but because it doesn’t appear that he’s consulting the Bible very much concerning how Christians should be politically active.

I mean, what is Warren thinking, giving a rogue terrorist state like Syria fodder for such incredible propaganda?

  1. American Priest Says no Peace without Syria
  2.
  3. DAMASCUS, (SANA)_ American Protestant Pastor Rick Warren on Monday said there was no peace in the region without Syria, noting that 80 percent of the American people rejected what the US Administration is doing in Iraq and considered the US policy in the Mideast as wrong.
  4.
  5. Syria’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Badr al-Din Hassoun received the American Pastor in Damascus in which he referred to the importance of spreading culture of amity, peace and coexistence instead of the 'clash of civilizations'.
  6.
  7. The Mufti called for conveying the real image of Syria, national unity and its call to spread peace, amity and justice to the American people which the US administration has distorted their image before the world.
  8.
  9. Pastor Warren expressed admiration of Syria and the coexistence he saw between Muslims and Christians, stressing that he will convey this image to his church and country.

Besides the strange irony in calling Rick Warren a “priest,” it’s hard to find anything good to say about this report. I mean, it’s widely known that Syria gives generous support to a whole slew of terrorist organizations, from the Abu Nidal organization, to Abu Abbas’ PLF, to the PFLP; it’s been on the State Department list of countries sponsoring terrorism since the list’s inception in 1979.

Again, what is Rick Warren thinking? Maybe that whole global warming thing is having some kind of effect on him? Seriously.

Overall, it appears to me that my original thesis - that Christians AND Christian leaders are sorely lacking in understanding what the Bible says about Christian political involvement - holds true. Thus, the need for a book focusing on that.

Hey, there’s an idea...

“And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand... Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.” (II Chron. 16:7,9b).

“Purpose Driven Terror?”
