Well, the Super Bowl was yesterday... but Super Tuesday is tomorrow.

As conservative Christians, do we really have a choice?

You probably already know that I’m voting for Alan Keyes, since he’s on the ballot here in Georgia. I thought what he had to say about the other remaining candidates in a recent interview pretty much summed things up:

  1. None of the candidates offered in this election cycle represent the consistent, principled and coherent conservatism that drew many people to the Republican party during the Reagan era. Giuliani represented the abandonment of the party’s reliance on American moral principle; Romney represents a blatant attempt to deceive moral conservatives into supporting someone whose entire political career has been dedicated to the promotion of the same morally repugnant positions espoused by Clinton, Obama and the Democrats in general. John McCain is a proven enemy of the grassroots political action that has been the mainstay of conservatism for several decades. He has also been a key figure in the effort to betray the sovereignty of the people on the border and immigration issues. Mike Huckabee’s record as governor shows him to be a government expanding, free spending advocate of big government approaches in every area. He also supported the betrayal of the sovereignty of the people when it comes to border security and immigration. Ron Paul preaches the abandonment of Ronald Reagan’s commitment to America’s leadership role in the world, a position that is both dangerous and morally irresponsible.
  2.
  3. Each of these candidates represents the abandonment of a key element of conservative principle or policy that is vital to America’s strength and the survival of constitutional liberty. My voice is being carefully stifled in order to prevent grassroots Republicans from realizing that there is a complete, consistent conservative choice available, one truly committed to the things they believe (not fabricating positions that contradict all their past actions just to win votes.)

“But Bill,” you say, “I have to vote for _______ because we need to stop _______!”

Fill in the blanks according to your own rationalizations:

“I have to vote for McCain because we need to stop Hillary/Obama in November!”

“I have to vote for Romney because we need to stop the liberal McCain from getting the nomination!”

“I have to vote for Huckabee because we need to stop the phony Romney from getting the nomination!”

Yes, I get it. But I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I don’t go and vote against someone, I go and vote for someone, or else I don’t go and vote at all. In fact, as I said last week in a Fox News interview, if McCain is the nominee, I will NOT be voting for him in November, and I think a lot of others feel the same way. I’ll either vote third party (again), or leave that one blank.

So why not vote for Romney? Because he’s a liar, and just says whatever he has to in order to get elected.

So how about Huckabee? Fugettaboutit. He’s a big-government Christian socialist.

Now, I have to say here, I do like Ron Paul, and have for the last 20 years or so. If Alan Keyes weren’t on the ballot, I’d be voting for him. So you see, I don’t agree with everything that Dr. Keyes says... just almost everything. :)

I’m still hoping for a brokered convention, where no one has a majority of delegates, and a true conservative could perhaps step forward as a consensus candidate. But I must constantly remind myself:

I’m responsible for my vote. God is responsible for the outcome.

“Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD. And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.” (I Samuel 8:4-7)

Super-Duper Tuesday - What Choice Do We Have?
