Driving from Thimphu to Paro we took a tiny side road to the Sisena Nunnery. Founded by His Holiness Dilgo Khentse Rinpoche, the nuns are engaged in Shedra studies and Nyingmapa Rituals.
Sisena Nunnery
Khenpo was happy to talk with us and show us around.
The first prayer hall we visited houses the stupa/shrine of Khentse Rinpoche’s wife. Revered as a great practicioner in her own right, she was an ardent supporter of this nunnery.
Outside the door this group of nuns are busy making torma.
These torma are very elaborate.
The Lama left us to visit this shrine room while he handled some business. He encouraged us to take pictures inside the shrine room, something quite uncommon in Bhutan.
There was plenty to photograph.
Kutira took this evocative shot with an album cover in mind. A Photo of Khentse Rinpoche is in the upper left corner

Every nunnery has a group of elder ladies who join after their children are raised.
A three year retreat center in the making.
The new kitchen
The new dining hall
The monk/teacher thought we were quite amusing.
His students got a kick out of us as well.
Accommodations for the nuns were basic, but clean and comfortable
