Winding through the hills, two hours of driving brought us to the town of Caxambu. Famous for it’s mineral waters, the town was once bustling with casinos. Some years ago Brazil banned gambling houses and now it is a sleepy place, slowly renovating its Hydrothereputic pools and thinking about inviting tourists to join them.
Caxambu
Down from Saua mountain we took a left at the little village of Campina.
Many of these tiny villages boast artisans of one kind or the other.
The back of Parrot Mountain
This little shop half way to Caxambu had an amazing array of interesting items.
This wood is prized for it’s longevity.

I love these glass/water/light displays

As soon as we arrived in Caxambu we headed for the mineral water park
The building was closed but the springs were available for us to enjoy the waters.

Hydrotherapy included massage and several different kinds of baths and hot swimming pools. Wonder when they will be finished with their renovations?
The mineral water springs had different names and different healing properties. This one dedicated to Prince Pedro was said to be good for the liver

This one was for digestion
This lake in the middle of the park reflected the town. To the left you can see a ski lift. It was closed. Another fun event to look forward to.
Stunning photo of Bel

The next morning this fellow in blue insisted that we hire his horse and buggy.
We were glad we did
The Hotel Gloria was reasonable, comfortable and clean
It is one of the oldest hotels in the region.
The only reason I could easily say goodbye to Bel and Angela is because they are coming to join us for the retreat in Brasilia. Very special friends.
