Four creative and dedicated pilgrims, called to contribute to the well-being of the world by empowering women traveled from their Hawaiian homes, meeting in the bustling city of Bangkok, Thailand.
The Journey Begins
Robin Mazor, Museum Director Emeritus and Consultant from the island of Kauai enjoys a prone position after a grueling 18 hour journey.
Our room was 14 floors up, allowing us to enjoy spectacular sunrise views of the city
The hotel was lavishly appointed. We especially enjoyed the dance of rainbow light from these chandeliers in the lobby
Outside the door there were spirit houses. Every Thai house will have one somewhere on the grounds where daily offerings are made to Buddhas and Ancestors
Kutira and Raphael under a “Bangkok, City of Life” sign. They own and manage a beautiful retreat center on Maui. Raphael is an accomplished recording artist. They co-teach Creative Spirituality
A short walk from our hotel we strolled over these pedestrian bridges enroute to gather our last bits and bobs.
For all of us, the modern pulse of life in Bangkok was a sharp contrast to our peaceful island lives
Traffic is outrageous in the city. We were happy to be looking down at it. We especially enjoyed the candy colors of the taxis....purple, pink, chartreuse, cornflower.........
We were heading for MBK a mega shopping mall
Bangkok is famous for its shopping opportunities. People from all over southeast asia come to the city to shop at the mega malls
Of course each Mega Mall has it’s own spirit house!!!
It was also the place to eat well. We met Tevi, an American teaching English in Bangkok. Kutira on her left, Prema on her right, headed for a night of good food and good companionship.
However modern Bangkok gets there are still the delights of street vendors up from the country, selling their produce
Good, interesting food is everywhere.
This little fellow stood outside a massage establishment. Thai massage, a specialty of the city, was readily available  in a number of small establishments a moments stroll from the hotel
A government seal
Guardians of the local bridge
Bangkok is on a huge river and laced with canals
Pounding chilis. A long metal pole makes it possible to crush the fiery spice without major consequences to eyes and nose
Robin and Kutira meet the modern world. In the Basement floor of this mega mall was a lavish Aquarium.
I was too exhausted to notice on the way in but on the way out we delighted in the graceful architecture of the new international airport.
The shapes were pure Thai......graceful, strong and highly efficient.
