call for submissions

The deadline for submissions to the premiere issue on “Imagination” has passed. Please watch this space for the call for submissions for our second issue on the theme of “Youth.” The call will be posted in October following the Consultation on Youth.

Practical Matters is now accepting scholarly submissions for peer review on the theme of Imagination.

Without imagination, human beings could neither come to know their world as it is nor consider possibilities for the future.

Journal submissions should explore imagination in religious practices and/or practical theology through the themes of Understanding Imagination,
Imagining Transformation, and Engaging Practices of Imagination.

Possible topics for exploration include, but are not limited to, the following:

Understanding Imagination
· relationships of imagination to creativity and fantasy
· types of imagination (e.g., religious, theological, moral, liturgical, pastoral, political)
· links among imagination, sense experience, and perception
· imagination in relation to location and embodiment

Imagining Transformation
· imagination, ritual, and religious community
· imagination and possibility
· dangers and perversions of imagination
· imagination and difference
· imagination in political life

Engaging Practices of Imagination
· imagination in teaching theology and religion
· imagination in religious belief and practice

Films, soundscapes, artwork, photo essays, and other media and formats will be considered along with traditional academic papers. Accepted submissions will be published in the first issue of Practical Matters (Fall 2008).

Submissions deadline: May 30, 2008
