Established in 1975, the purpose of the Island Pond Association is to enhance the quality of life and the environment on Island Pond.  If you enjoy Island Pond, -- its water quality, aquatic plants, wildlife, waterfront, or boating, -- please join the Association.  Membership is on a family basis and is very reasonable, particularly when you consider all the things the Association does.

Here is What We Do

·         Volunteer Lake Assessment Program (VLAP) is a joint program involving the NH Department of Environmental Services (DES), local volunteers, and associations.

The water in each of the participating lakes or ponds must be sampled in the presence of a DES biologist at least once during the summer.  For Island Pond we actually test the water three times a year, in June, July, and August.  Water samples are taken at the inlet, deep spot, beach, and the outlet.  An
historical Summary of Selected VLAP Water Test results are available from a Microsoft Excel file included in this link.

·         Weed Watching - The DES Exotic Species Program coordinates activities associated with the identification, control and management of exotic aquatic plants that present a risk to many bodies of water in NH and elsewhere.  In conjunction with the DES, an active group of volunteers at Island Pond sponsors local education programs and the local volunteer monitoring effort.

·         Local volunteers coordinate Island Pond’s Lake Host Program and have done so since 2003.  The New Hampshire Lakes Association receives a grant from the NH DES in support of this program.  The Program’s goal is to prevent the spread of exotic milfoil and other invasive aquatic species in NH.  In our case, this involves positioning lake hosts at the Town Beach where they distribute brochures, complete a brief boater survey, and conduct voluntary, courtesy boat and trailer inspections.

·         The Association acts as an informal communications link with other organizations and entities in order to stay informed, obtain and pass on information to members and guests attending the Annual meeting.

·         Annual Pot Luck Supper (word), Informational Program, and Business Meeting.  Next year it is scheduled for 6:00PM, Saturday, August 2, 2008. (hyperlink to separate Word document)
