‘Krosscheck Kancer’ Raises $11,000

Kaustick’s ‘Krosscheck Kancer’ team completed the Los Angeles Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this weekend — a trek that took the players on a 39-mile tour through Long Beach.

More importantly, Krosscheck Kancer raised over $11,000 to help fight breast cancer and to provide access to screenings and treatment for those who lack the financial means.

The financial support included contributions from Anaheim Hockey Club of Corona, 212 Sports LLC, and at least six members of the Kaustick team.

“The one thing that comes to me that I will never forget is the people on the streets - total strangers, honking their horns, sitting on patios waving to us and thanking us for doing this,” said Karen Posner, who walked on the Krosscheck Kancer team.

“They were thanking me for walking and collecting donations for a cause that will impact all of us in some way — for a friend, sister, mom, grandmother, aunt, father, cousin, yourself or even your child,” she said. “I have to say ‘thank you for helping us walk. Thank you for supporting a cause so close to my heart. You've saved some lives.’ “

Kasutick’s Susan Brannen, Laura Chavez and Wendy Villa, along with two friends, also participated in the event — with Chavez, Villa and one other member completing the entire 39-mile marathon-and-a-half walk.

All six members of the Krosscheck Kancer team crossed the finish line at the Queen Mary in unison.

Kaustick defenseman Tim Strack, a member of the Riverside Fire Department, volunteered as part of the event’s medical staff for the weekend.

All totaled, the 2,100 event participants raised in excess of $5 million.

In support of a teammate, Kaustick will continue to Krosscheck Kancer. Details of future endeavors will be published at http://www.kaustick.com.
