from one corner of Haiti...
Les Cayes, located in Haiti’s southern department, is the country’s third largest city after Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haïtien. The city proper is home to over 50,000 but many of the outlying communities rely on this large town as well. Farmers, vendors, and workers come to Cayes from the surrounding coastal flood plains and mountain villages to take advantage of economic opportunities in the bigger town.

Most of theses photographs* focus on Les Cayes, nearby communities, and Port-au-Prince. A majority were taken between December 2006 and August 2007. A few recent photos were added after a trip in March 2008.

*A majority of these photographs were taken with a Nikon D70 with either a Tamaron zoom 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 lens or a AF-S Nikkor zoom 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. In very few instances, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7 was used. children the (is)land
