From Chef Tom Bivins:

I always admired Chef Bob Long for his commitment to his students.  He was tenacious in his support for the quality of their education and I am sure he made as great an impact on their lives as he did on his colleagues.  He was always pleasant and amiable; supportive of me and instrumental in my success when I transferred to the Montpelier Campus from Essex Campus.  He was

I didn’t have the opportunity to get to know Chef Bob as well as I would have liked; I had to move away and continue my NECI journey from afar.  Isn’t that always the way?  That there is always something that gets between what you want and what must be?  Sometimes it seems that way, especially at times like these.

From President Fran Voigt:

It is with deep sorrow that I announce the sudden and unexpected death of Chef Robert Long this evening at Central Vermont Hospital. Chef Bob was a dedicated and well-respected chef instructor who had been with NECI for nearly eight years.  Chef Bob leaves three children, along with countless friends in the NECI community.  He will be greatly missed.

Plans for his classes will be announced shortly. We plan to celebrate Chef Bob’s life and contribution to NECI -- and those details will be released as soon they become available.  Remember that should you need it, grief counseling is available through the EAP program at 800.272.7255.

It’s been a year, Chef. You are still missed, still loved. You continue to teach us. The two old, simple problems ever intertwined,
Close home, elusive, present, baffled, grappled.
By each successive age insoluble, pass'd on,
To ours to-day--and we pass on the same.
Walt Whitman,
(1819 – 1892) Life and Death
