A Friendly Gesture

Visuals show the prototype.

The man pats the dog. The dog returns the friendly gesture in his own way!

Automaton made entirely from wooden parts with brass connecting wires. All parts are made in my workshop.

Woods used are lime for the carvings, pine for the frame and pine, beech and birch ply for the mechanism. Other woods used are lignum vitae, cherry and yew.

This automaton has a 50 turn cycle and the mechanism runs smoothly.

In the video watch the man bend to pat the dog. As the dog is patted he wags his tail.

The man stands up again and then the dog stands to greet the man with his head sniffing and again his tail wagging. The man recoils.

The dog sits down again and the man turns his head and moves his left hand in embarrassment his eyes converge and his mouth opens. He recovers his composure.

The upper axle turns continuously whereas the lower axle stops in 5 different positions driven by the Geneva Wheel.
