Jon Steinhagen, playwright

Jon has received four Jeff Awards and six After Dark Awards for his work in Chicago theatre for musical direction, composition, or acting since 1995.  Jon has provided musical direction/keyboards to such Chicago productions as Grand Hotel, The Life (Midwest premiere), Muscle (world premier), Jane Eyre, Sunday in the Park with George and In Trousers.  Jon also provided new arrangements for the post-Broadway premiere of Harry Connick Jr.’s Thou Shalt Not and the world premiere of Josephine Tonight!  He has been associated with Circle Theatre, Bailiwick, Pegasus Players, Theatre Building Chicago, Porchlight Music Theatre and Light Opera Works.  He is an alumnus of New Turners writer’s workshop of Chicago and the Merit Music Program.  He is an artistic associate of Porchlight Music Theatre, an artistic affiliate of Bohemian Theatre Ensemble and a member of the Chicago Federation of Musicians. 

As a composer/lyricist, Jon wrote the music and lyrics for People Like Us, Inferno Beach, Emma and Company, and The Arresting Dilemma of Mister K, which have been produced regionally from Manhattan to Seattle.  He composed incidental music for such plays as Mill Fire, After the Fall and My Sister in This House.  He has worked extensively as a pianist/arranger in cabaret, making several appearances at Davenport’s with 3 Girls 3 and other artists.  In 2005 he received a producer-writer initiative grant form NAMT to develop his musical comedy The Teapot Scandals, which received its world premiere in January 2007 at Porchlight Music Theatre, and later went on to receive and Equity Jeff nominated for Best New Work: Musical.  He has written original incidental music for Lorca’s Yerma and Brect’s Edward II (Bohemian Theatre Ensemble) and Die Mommie Die (Hell in a Handbag).  Current projects include the book, music and lyrics for First Kiss and The Valentino Tango.

As a playwright, Jon authored The Applewood Pistols, an “original Chekhov comedy”, The Analytical Engine, and Something More Comfortable and several short plays including the collections Empty Vessels, Midnight on the Eastland and Reunion of the Reserve Heads.  For composer Ilya Levinson, he wrote the opera libretti for Young Goodman Brown and The Tell-Tale Heart.  He wrote the book and lyrics for Alice in Analysis and is currently writing the lyrics of a musical based on Ken Alder’s book The Measure of All Things.  He wrote the “American lyrics” for Dancing on the Edge of the Volcano, a collection of Yiddish political and cabaret songs (Cedille CD). 

As an actor, Jon has appeared in several character roles, most recently as The Chairman in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Clive Oxford in Darling of the Day, J.J. Hunsecker in the post-Broadway regional premiere of Sweet Smell of Success, John Dickinson in 1776.  In 2005 he received the Joseph Jefferson Citation as Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in The Mystery of Edwin Drood.  troubleclefmusic@gmail.com

Rob Ullman, Graphic Designer

Rob pays the bills a freelance illustrator for a plethora of publications, such as Virginia Living, Nickelodeon, Make, Richmond Magazine, and The Washington City Paper.  He creates comics in his spare time (of which there never seems to be enough), including Atom Bomb Bikini, Grand Gestures, Lunch-Hour Comix and Supermodel.

An Addy Award-nominated graphic designer by trade, Robert has also illustrated several has also illustrated several educational children’s books for Sports Mascot Books and McGraw-Hill.  

So go ahead and hire him or buy some comics, already!

Heather Lee Ann, Designer / Photographer

Throughout her life, Heather has been known to have a camera with her and looking to capture moments and images whenever she can.

Heather Lee Ann admits that she learns something new everyday about photography and the equipment used. Since this is an ever changing field, she is inspired by the training she conducts at work. Some of her past photos have been used in advertising and studio displays throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, Germany and England. Today she specializes in studio operations and continues to be involved in the photography aspect whenever she can.

When Heather is not working and caring for her son, she captures everyday moments and does freelance work for weddings and special events. Working in both color and black & white, her photojournalistic style is modern with a timeless, classical edge.

She is surprised and pleased with the reactions people have when they admire her photos. She continues to grow as a photographer and is beginning to showcase her work in local photo contests. She also gives tips to hobbyist in the articles she submits for a newsletter called Shutterbug . Her work has been purchased in various formats and is enjoyed by peopled around the country.
