For Immediate release:
The teen-operated theater company, Real Life Players, will perform Getting Even on April 26th, 27th & 28th at Darkhorse Theater.
All proceeds will be donated to charity.
Nashville’s teen-owned & operated Real Life Players will perform their original production, Getting Even, Thursday through Saturday, April 26-28th at 6:30 pm at the Darkhorse Theater, 4610 Charlotte Ave. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students. Fourteen teens, ages 12-18, from seven different Nashville schools form the nonprofit Real Life Players. Getting Even is their comedic and dramatic exploration of the concept of revenge. Like past RLP works, Getting Even suggests that teens and adults have lives that are far more similar than they are different. Regardless of age, creed, color, gender or economics, people sometimes are tempted to get revenge in spite of the cost. Getting Even is (self) rated “PG-13.”
All proceeds from Getting Even will be given to one of three non-profit charities; Nurses for Newborns, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing or the Tennessee Baptist Adult Home. Consistent with the RLP tradition of audience participation, each audience member will choose which of these three charities will receive the money from their ticket. Nurses for Newborns provides medical care and supplies for at risk babies. Project Healing Waters is dedicated to the physical and emotional healing of active military members and veterans through fly fishing. The Tennessee Baptist Adult Home provides a home environment for seniors and developmentally disabled adults who do not have a home of their own.
Over 85 teens have participated in the Real Life Players over the past 17 years. Members dedicate months of Sunday afternoons to create their original productions and then donate their proceeds to charity. While several RLP alumni are now working actors or studying theater at college, most former RLP members have gone on to other work, including business, teaching, ministry, and medicine. “The Real Life Players gave me a chance to be with a diverse group of individuals and use my abilities, not just to entertain, but give back to my community and world. As well as being too fun for words!!” said a 6 year member of the cast.
Past plays by the RLP have included topics such as confronting personal fears (Crazy With Fear), violence in society (Violence on Trial), differences and similarities in gender issues ( Gender Bender), the struggles of being a homeless teen ( Wicked Games) and the trials and tribulations of love ( Love Beach)
More information available at reallifeplayers@hotmail.com or on Facebook at Real Life Players. Reservations can be made after April 12th by calling 364-6856.

Three Charities to Receive Proceeds from Real Life Players Play, STRANDED.
Nashville’s teen-owned and operated Real Life Players (RLP) will perform their original production, Stranded, Thursday, April 28th thru Saturday, April 30th. Performances will be at 7pm at the Darkhorse Theater, 4610 Charlotte Ave. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students. All proceeds will be donated to three charities to be chosen from organizations recommended to the Real Life Players Facebook page. For reservations call 364-6856.
Since the Real Life Players raise money to cover all production costs in advance, they are able to donate all of the proceeds from the door directly to charity. This year, the Real Life Players have chosen three charities from public recommendations. In the continuing spirit of audience participation, each audience member will be able to select Walden’s Puddle, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) or Thistle Farms of Magdalene to receive the money from their ticket. The more people that attend, the more money goes to charity.
Thirteen teens ages 14-19 from six different Nashville schools form the non-profit RLP company. Stranded, is their comedic and dramatic exploration of how people can become lost on life's journey through their past missteps or negative emotions and how those people can achieve their goals by pursuing their passions, hopes and dreams. The play is (self) rated “PG-13.”
Over 80 youths have participated in RLP over the past 16 years. These teens have dedicated months of Sunday afternoons to create their original productions and will donate all of their proceeds to charity. While several alumni are now working actors or studying theater at college, many former RLP members have gone on to work in business, teaching, ministry, and medicine. “Being a member of Real Life Players gives me the chance to expand my talents, work with a diverse group of individuals and use my abilities to not just entertain but give back to my community and world. Basically, it is too much fun for words!” said a six year member of company. In the past, plays have included topics such as confronting personal fears (Crazy With Fear), violence in society (Violence on Trial), searching for love (Love Beach), the struggles for acceptance by homeless youth (Wicked Games), and the differences and similarities of the genders ( Gender Bender).
