Each year, 64 of the top amateurs skaters from around the country come together to compete in KING OF THE PARK. Over the past 6 years, this contest has been held in Wave-land, MS at South Coast Skate Park. After the last two years of hurricanes and the falling economics in the Gulf Coast, Kelly Welsh and I decided to take the contest on the road working with skate parks in the south to host KOTP. This year, Kelly and I decided to work with Progressive Skate Park in Canton, GA. This park was a great pick, you have a international airport close by, setup is great and A/C runs at a cool 72 degrees all the time. This years contest was no different from the last 6 years having Oakley and Red Bull as the headline sponsors. Both sponsors have supported this event from day one and completely understand our passion for skateboarding.
KOTP is setup in three different contests to make one complete crazy weekend of skateboarding bliss:
-
• Big A's Mini Ramp Pro/ AM Jam - Sponsored by: Origin Skateboarding. Brands Include Origin Trucks, Celtic Skateboards and Sentury Wheels.
-
• King of The Park Sponsored by:
Fuel TV, World Industries, Osiris, 411VM, Zero Skateboards, Mystery Skateboards, Fallen Footwear and Slave Skateboards. Other supporters include, Drifter, Factor 54 Clothing, Sole Tech, Little Paw, AT&T and the Door 44.
-
• Red Bull Best Trick Sponsored by: Red Bull
KOTP main event format is a blind draw, man on man, double elimination. The blind draw is a event in its own right. Waiting to see who you’ll will be skating against keeps toes tapping and teeth cracking. Thanks to the Red Bull girls for there part in the contest. Its great to have good looking girls help out.
