Jessica is 2 months old today. Time flies when you are having fun.
She is 11 pounds 2 ounces and 22 1/2 inches and her head is 15 inches.
Just after she turned one month old, she had a growth spurt. Her head grew so fast that she was bald from the middle of her head to her forehead. At her forehead, she had a line of a few little hairs. Thankfully, it is filling back in with peach fuzz now.
She still sleeps a great deal of the time (18-20 hours). And she is still fussy when she is awake. She has about 10-15 minutes of awake time before she starts to fuss. One day at the mall, she was awake and happy for about 45 minutes while the kids were playing. I was shocked and loving it. Then she went straight to the Emeril “BAM” cry. (Her newest nickname is “Miss Lagasse”) She is very good if I carry her in the sling. She likes to be snuggled tightly. As I was putting her in sling on this occasion, she was SCREAMING and a lady angrily asked me if I was “smothering that baby in that thing?” I laughingly replied, “No” and went on my way to walk Jessica’s fusses away with Dalton and Lexie in tow.
We also have a swaddle blanket made by Kiddopotamus, that it worth it’s weight in gold. She is much happier when she sleeps if she is swaddled. She regularly sleeps 4-7 hours between feedings at night. And last night she went 9 hours! You’d think I would be well rested after that, but no. I have to wake up, make sure she is alive by checking her breathing. If I can’t tell in the dark, I have to poke her and make sure she moves. And then I have to pump before I exploded. This all makes for a very awake mom in the middle of the night. And her 9 hours were from 6:30 pm to 3:30 am. She ate and went back to sleep until 5:30.At that point we were up to greet Dalton. As usual, he got up to wake the roosters so they could do their jobs of waking the world. And he was happy to have some company for a change. It is an important job, but lonely just the same.
My friend Robin came to visit us from Charlotte last week. We had fun. She is due in Oct with her second child. Her 16-month-old son, Bradley, didn’t pay much attention to Jessica until I put her in her bouncy chair and walked away. He took that opportunity to poke her and make sure she was real. I am sure he will love his sibling. He was giving everyone big hugs before he left. We can’t wait to hear if it is a girl or boy and how Bradley reacts. (I am guessing girl, even with the family history of all boys this generation!)
Jessica isn’t as fussy as Dalton. (Dalton as a baby. Whines have replaced the fussing.) He was awake more and inconsolable a lot of times. She is consolable. It requires walking and rocking, ant movement is better than none. She is my high maintenance girly girl. And we love her “all the way around the galaxy three times AND back!” And we are enjoying every minute.
She has changed a lot in the past month. Check out her one to two month pictures <HERE>
