In the rooms of the children there are old floorboards on the floor. I didn’t like the brown very much, so I painted the whole floor.
Around the chimneyplace in Freeks room I painted fake tiles .

A painted a piece of the floor white and stencilled the design of victorian tiles on the white. I placed them like it were tiles next to each other and drew lines between the designs to suggest the edges of the tiles

The stencil on the right suggested also tiles and it was stencilled between his room and the corridor.

this is a stencil I cut out of cardboard, but I didn’t use it as a stencil, but I glued it on
the sides of a sideboard to suggest “paperlace”

The purple on the right with the designs is my new wallpaper in

I made a stencil with a left over piece and sprayed the design with icespray on my windows to decorate my “winterhouse”.
They disappeared with a good wash with water and soap...
The last things I want to show you is what I did with “masks” in my house.
I’m very fond of sandblasted windows but I don’t have the money to buy them so I faked them...
I made a mask of adhesive paper and stick it on the window, using my stencil as a guide.

Then I paint over the masks with “frosted varnish” ( bought 20 years ago in London), but you can also mix waterbased varnish with a bit of white paint for the same effect.
As soon as the varnish is on, you pull the masks of before the varnish is dry. Otherwise the varnish sticks on your mask and you tear bits of the varnish where I should stay on...

I used the technique on my bathroomwindows to avoid peeking in. ( I ‘m not fond of curtains...)
I even used it on plexiglass on the bathroomdoor.

And if you’re tired of the design ?
Just take a sponge with a bit of water and a lot of soap and because of the soap the varnish dissolves ! And then you can create another design.
So, this is my journey of fifteen years working with stencils and masks.
Am I still a student of Michelle ?
Yes, I think I am : I never tried cutting a design with a heated-tip burner, I’m not addicted on spraypaints yet, I haven’t used stencils in my small works, so...
I know what to do in the coming month !
