Ethnic New York
A Dining Adventure

Sorry for the delay once again my fellow foodies, but I believe I speak for everyone when I say Via Emilia was one of our favorites yet again.  A nice group of about 13 of us found our way to Via Emilia: Tania, Ray, Pilar, Angel, Mike, Liz, KC, Griff, Nick, Jeanne, Matt, Rachel and Friend, who I think was Scott?   A thing of note is that his little restaurant is cash only, and if the clientele is any indicator, very family friendly, but certainly not loud with all the children in the room.  I found the service very courteous and prompt, our food cam quickly and we had only one mistake as far as I could see, one less Risotto unfortunately for Rachel.  I did not eat them myself, but I heard from Liz and Mike that the bruschetta was not what they expected, but not necessarily bad.  My eggplant anti-paste, polpettine di melanzane, was delicious, as was my pasta, the ravioli con caprino.  I did not get a chance to see Jeanne and Nick’s dessert, but from the speed at which it was consumed I gather that was delicious as well.  So before I forget, once again the details of our evening:

47 E 21st St

from Tania’s email, we have the following:

This place specializes in cuisine from the Emilia-Romana region, more             specifically Modena, which is where tortellini comes from. Needless to say there are many tortellini dishes featured on the menu - all made by hand each day, as well as an assortment of other stand-bys. The lasagna has gotten rave reviews, and their appetizer list includes gnocco, which is a bread puff that you stuff with cured meats.

The other choices, in case we want to return to this cuisine in the near future were Assenzio and Pisticci.

Assenzio- East 4th Street, between Avenues A and B.
Specializes in Sardinian cuisine, which includes numerous Carpaccio dishes, wild boar, truffles, homemade pasta noodles, and various seafood and fish specialties. Another bonus is that we can try the legal variety of Absinthe.

Pisticci - La Salle Street, between Broadway and Claremont
Located near Columbia, this restaurant focuses on the Basilicata region of southern italy, but their dishes take influence from other regions as well. Their dishes focus on simplicity, utilizing just a few key ingrediates, some of which are flown in from Italy each week. Eggplant, broccoli rabe, and meats like proscuitto and lamb figure into a few dishes.
