All Final Cut Express HD effects that you can download from this site were tested on Final Cut Express 4 and most also on Final Cut Pro 5.1 and 6, but they’ll likely work also in other versions of FCE and FCP as long as they provide support for the fxscript scripting language (see also the Disclaimer at the end of the page). Possible exceptions will be pointed out in the specific plugin description.
Standard Installation:
1.download the script plugin: the downloaded zip file should unzip itself automatically and leave a text file with suffix .fxscript in your Home/Download folder
2.move the .fxscript text file to the correct folder in your startup disk as follows:
•for FCE move it to:
your Home/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Express User Data/Plugins, if it is just for you, or
/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Express Support/Plugins, if you want to make it available to all users of your Mac.
•for FCP move it to:
your Home/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Plugins, if it is just for you, or
/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro Support/Plugins, if you want to make it available to all users of your Mac.
3.quit FCE or FCP (if it was open) and start it again to use the filter.
4.use the downloaded plugin in either FCE or FCP:
Filters are available in the bin pf or the bin pf-toolbox of Video Filters in the Effects Tab of the Browser, or in the FCE or FCP menu Effects > Video Filters > pf or pf-toolbox.
Transitions are available in the bin pf or the bin pf-toolbox of Video Transitions in the Effects Tab of the Browser, or in the FCE or FCP menu Effects > Video Transitions > pf or pf-toolbox.
Generators are available in the bin pf or the bin pf-toolbox of Video Generators in the Effects Tab of the Browser, or in the Generator popup menu (small “A”) under the Viewer window in its Video tab.
Installation Troubleshooting:
Note 1: If the plugin does not appear, its file has probably lost some basic file information along the way. To recover it you must open its file with a text editor allowing to set up these 2 info:
•Line Breaks = Unix
•Encoding = Unicode (UTF-8, no BOM)
If you use TextWrangler by Bare Bones for that (it works pretty well with me) you must Open the .fxscript file, and then Save As: in the save dialog box click on the Options... button to set the parameters as above, and confirm when asked to replace the existing file while saving.
Note 2: If after fixing the parameters listed in Note 1, the plugin still cannot be accessed in FCE or FCP, its file Type is probably empty while it should be Type=TEXT. To recover this kind of problems you unfortunately need a file management tools like File Buddy, that allows to access and modify legacy matadata like Type. This however should never occur, unless you attach the filter to an e-mail without zipping it first.
After fixing the file as described in Note 1 and/or Note 2, Quit FCE or FCP and start it again to use the filter.
Text Version Download:
All plugins are also available in a plain text version, that you can download in place of the zipped version. The known problem about the text version is that you might need to fix the Line Breaks, Encoding and file Type parameters as described in Notes 1 and 2 above, using specific tools, before they can be recognized by FCE or FCP.
In any case, if for some reason you are not be able to unzip the files you can use the following downloads, as an alternative:
