shi ken haramitsu dai kou myou calligraphy by Paul
Since 1994, Paul Masse, a native of Miami Florida, has been living in Japan and training consistently two to three times a week directly with Grand Master Masaaki Hatsumi Sensei of the Bujinkan Martial Arts. No other foreigner has trained this long and consistently with Grand Master Hatsumi Sensei. This is surely one realization of the expression, 武風一貫, Bufu Ikkan or Devotion to the Martial Winds.

Paul`s martial art background includes black belts in Karate and Aikido as well as experience in full contact kickboxing. But after introduction to the Bujinkan in the late eighties, he has been single heartedly devoted to the study of the Bujinkan martial tradition.
Although Paul has trained at the feet of the Grand Master for the last fifteen years; he remains curiously unknown; perhaps taking to heart the ninja concept of “Sugata wo Kesu” or “vanishing, disappearing, or erasing your form”. But after encouragement of his friends and fellow practitioners, he has agreed to share his understanding and insights into the movement and philosophy of Grand Master Hatsumi Sensei`s Bujinkan. With his fellow martial friends around the world, it is his sincere desire to let this martial wind blow thru us to foster the next great community of true artists for a better humanity!
To further his understanding of his teacher`s movement and philosophy, Paul has also undertaken the study of Japanese Calligraphy or Shodo, Japanese Ink Painting or Suiboku and Japanese Pottery. Recently he work was awarded honors at several exhibitions in the Tokyo area. Some of his work can be seen here on this site. It is our sincere hope that you may gain some inspiration for your art, training, and life. 真心まされ!
