Who We Are . . .

We are a ministry sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Peace.  The Center provides a quiet, healing and hospitable atmosphere.  The staff has been trained in various aspects of alternative healing.  It is a part of Heartland Ministries.  The other prongs are Heartland Center for Spirituality  and Heartland Farm, also sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

Our philosophical belief is that our health depends on a healthy planet.  Improving our health is inextricably linked with ecological well-being.    Good health lies in recognizing that each of us is a part of a wider web of life. When the web is healthy we are more likely to be healthy.  But the rising rate of environmental illnesses is a constant reminder that the web is not healthy.  Our biosphere is rampantly toxic and woefully depleted; therefore, the mounting number of our health problems can only be understood  as part of a larger pattern.

In the present medical system, We have seen almost miraculous emergency care and the marvels that our advance technology can offer.  However, when it comes to chronic types of diseases, it seems that the best we have to offer is symptom relief.

Sadly, we approach our bodies with much violence.  We “declare war” on disease.  We spend billions of dollars trying to find the “magic bullet.”  We “attack” bacteria (the good along with the bad) with all the “big guns” we can muster.  It’s time to come to peace with our bodies and the earth of which we are a part.  It is time to “build-up” rather than “to destroy” in order to heal.
