God Wills IT!

Here is my first, unfinished unit for the new project.  It’s a unit of dismounted Knights Templar.  The figures are from Gripping Beast.  I’m quite pleased with the way they’re turning out, so far.  I still need to make a banner (for the bare-headed bloke) and a movement tray, before the unit will be finished, but I thought I’d show them to you as they are now.  Comments welcome!

So far so good - I’m quite pleased with them (though there are things I may yet modify a little).  Painting is as described previously, except that I used the ‘Soft Tone’ Quick Shade from Army Painter.  I thought Strong Tone would be too dark and grubby on white surcoats, even for such grubby creatures as military order knights!  Shield transfers are from LBMS.  The transfers on the surcoats are of my own manufacture.

Next on my workbench will be a unit of Musketeer Miniatures Arab foot soldiers.  Once those are done, I will have a much better idea whether this project is really what I want to do next.  I have enjoyed it so far, but I am already missing painting Warlord’s splendid Romans!

Stop Press!

My good friend Steve Jones (of the Newark Irregulars & co-author, with James Morris, of the ‘Age of Arthur’ WAB suppplement), coincidentally, is working on an almost identical project (Kingdom Of Heaven inspired Crusades - great minds think alike!) and has just posted a rather nicely painted foot unit - for the Kingdom of Jerusalem - see it here.  It’s rather nice to have someone else working on almost the same thing - we can share ideas and inspiration, and ‘egg each other on’.
