Sassanids!

A&A Miniatures have come up trumps - the figures I ordered last week, in the hope they might arrive in time for tomorrow (our Silver Wedding anniversary), arrived today.

Lovely figures - lots of detail, well-sculpted, and nice poses.  The cataphract cavalry look suitably imposing, whilst the levy infantry look either bored, or as if they’d rather be elsewhere - I’m not sure which yet!  I am looking forward to getting them painted - though I’m a bit spoilt for choice as to which to paint first!  They should be fairly quick and easy to paint too - the cavalry are almost entirely armour, whilst the foot have lots of white or pale clothing.

I have made a start on the Gripping Beast elephant.  I decided I wasn’t terribly keen on the howdah - it seemed a bit big and ‘clunky’, so I am scratchbuilding a new one (two in fact, the army will end up with two jumbos, and it’s easier to make two models together, using the same measurements, than separately).

Sassanian Persians!
